Walks Associated with Macbeth

To Macbeth's execution stone

For the bloodthirsty, the purpose of this walk is to take you to the place where Macbeth was killed by Malcolm or his men.

To Macbeth's Cairn

Tradition has it that Macbeth was temporarily buried in the Cairn before being taken to the burial place of Scottish Kings on the Island of Iona. The route is quite simple. Unfortunately there is no convenient parking near the cairn itself, so it's best to leave the car in the village car park (see above). After parking, walk back along School Road and turn right when you reach the Meet Again Tea Shop.

Over the Hills and Far Away

If Macbeth were travelling north from say Perth or Dunsinane, he would likely have crossed the Cairn O'Mount and forded the River Dee at Kincardine O'Neil. The ford has been replaced by a bridge a couple of miles downstream at Potarch, but essentially the route is still used by modern traffic. This walk re-traces his steps for part of that journey from Lumphanan back to Kincardine O'Neil.
